Frequently Asked Questions

This is a general FAQ for our collective studio. For information about individual artists, please check out our artists' individual websites for their personalized FAQs!

Do you take walk-ins?

Constellation Tattoo Collective is a private, by-appointment-only tattoo studio; we do not take walk-ins, but book our appointments individually and in advance. You can find out about our individual artists' booking periods by following them on instagram.

Where are you located?

Our studio is located inside Workshop St. John’s at 6635 N. Baltimore Ave, Suite 292, Portland, OR. It's located in the St. John's neighborhood of north Portland, right next to the St. John's Bridge and Cathedral Park.

What is the best way to get to your studio?

If you are taking the bus, the nearest stop is N. Lombard & Baltimore. The best way to get inside is through the parking garage (you'll know you're in the right place because there are huge Columbia Sportswear adverts hanging in the parking garage- follow the arrow pointing toward "Yukon"!). After entering through the parking garage door, you will see double doors on your left that open to a (usually) empty gallery space. Walk straight back, veering left toward the men’s bathroom, and you'll see the tattoo studio through two interior windows on your left. You can let yourself in!

What if the parking garage door is closed?

This happens sometimes on weekends! You could either text/call your artist or shoot them an email, or wait for them to open the garage door. Another option is to enter via the main entrance down the hill or through the Occidental Brewery Restaurant, but this can be a bit of a labyrinth if you have never visited us before! Look for maps (like the one below) and follow signs for suite 292.

Where can I park?

There is street parking available outside the parking garage along Baltimore Ave, in the parking lot by Urban German, and on N. Crawford St. You are welcome to park inside the Workshop St. John’s parking garage if your artist has given you the code.

What are your studio’s COVID-19 safety precautions?

We require artists and clients to be masked in the studio and run a HEPA air filter. Please see our Health & Safety page for complete information on our studio’s current health precautions.

Do you have a private bathroom or changing area?

Unfortunately, no, we share public bathrooms with the other tenants of Workshop St. John’s. There is a men’s room, a women’s room, and a unisex bathroom that is harder to find, deeper in the building. The gendered bathrooms have locked doors with access codes- 1997 for the men’s room, and 1996 for the women’s room. We apologize for the inconvenience- we wish it were a different situation.

Our studio is an open room without a ton of space between stations. We have a privacy screen at the studio that is available to you if you would like more privacy at your appointment. If your artist doesn’t offer it, feel free to ask!

Do you host guest artists?

Yes! We love having guest artists, and especially like to hold space for POC, queer, trans, and non-binary artists. Please contact us using our contact form or email constellationtattoo@gmail.com !

What are your rates?

Each of the artists at our shop have a different hourly rate, or price their work individually dependent upon scale, level of detail, and placement. Consult your individual artist's website and individual FAQ/booking information to find out more about their pricing.

Do your artists offer any sliding scale payment options?

Some of our artists offer sliding scale or percentage-based discounts as an option for clients who self-identify as POC or trans, or on disability/health related circumstances. Inquire about sliding scale payment options during your consultation, mostly be upfront about the budget that you have and we will work with you. Your artist will not make assumptions or denials based on your race, gender, or circumstance; this is why we ask that you self-identify if you choose to pay using a sliding scale!

Can I bring snacks or food?

Yes, you are welcome to bring snacks and food! We keep a variety of snacks on deck at the studio in case you don’t. We have a microwave and a small mini fridge you are welcome to use and to store lunch in for longer sessions. We drink water from the tap, so bring your own water bottle if that’s not your jam.

Can I bring a pet?

Due to Oregon health code for tattoo facilities, only registered service animals are allowed inside our studio. Unfortunately, ESAs do not count. If you would like to bring your service animal to the studio, please check in with your artist first to let them know. Ultimately, this precaution is for your pet’s safety and well-being more than anything else. A tattoo studio is full of hazardous chemicals and potential blood borne pathogens that could poison or harm your pet. We also would prefer to keep animal hair and dander away from any open wounds or medical procedure zones- which is what a tattoo is!

Can I bring a friend?

Yes, you may bring one friend to your appointment. Please limit guests to one person, as our studio is small and gets crowded very quickly. Your friend must also wear a mask while inside our suite. We have tons of reading material to keep a friend occupied if you choose to bring someone!
